TravelLocal becomes a certified B Corporation

|

In March 2024, we announced our certification as a B Corporation (or B Corp), a wonderful step for us in our bid to help make travel a force for good and drive sustainability in the industry. We’re incredibly proud to have obtained a score of 91.5 points, exceeding not only the B Corp pass mark of 80 points, but also the travel industry average of 80.7 points. Find out what this achievement means for us and for you, as you join us in helping shape the future of travel.

What is a B Corporation?

Spanning all manner of industries on an international scale, B Corporations are businesses that have met the highest standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. A B Corp is a for-profit organization that has been certified by B Lab, the not-for-profit business behind the B Corp movement.

How we achieved our certification

Certification is achieved and maintained through a rigorous process. Before receiving our score, we were first required to complete a B Impact Assessment (BIA), which included more than 200 questions focused on governance, workers, environment, community, and customer relations. This was a thorough process, as it should be, and going through it helped us understand where rhetoric needed to be matched by action. It also highlighted some of the great things we were doing, but not talking about. What’s more, the need for B Corps to recertify every three years fosters a drive for continuous improvement.

How are we trying to make travel a force for good?

Our aim is to be a leading voice on sustainable and ethical tourism, and certification plays a key part in this. We want to shed light and educate on key issues in the modern travel industry, such as economic leakage, over-tourism, and decarbonization. Our commitment to reimagining more sustainable travel is stronger than ever, and we’re continuing to aim for a 50% reduction in emissions by 2030 as part of our dedication to the Glasgow Declaration. We’re striving to reach net-zero emissions, ideally before 2050, and in 2023 we set up the TravelLocal Fund For Good, supporting charities across the globe that focus on wildlife conservation, environmental degradation issues, and more. You can find out about each of these initiatives on our Reimagining travel page.
